The Cross at Kenilworth

We headed over to The Cross on a Saturday evening for dinner. A lovely “Country Gastro Pub feel” in the centre of Kenilworth.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly, they showed us to seats in the bar for drinks first. We chose from their fabulous Gin Menu , although they also have an extensive wine & cocktail menu too.

We loved the large Gin glasses and the contents of course !

Starters

Scottish Scallops with truffle sauce tender and flavoursome – definitely recommend.

Crispy Duck egg with mushroom veloute – light and tasty with the egg cooked just how we liked it, soft to touch.

Chicken Liver Parfait with beetroot jelly, absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and the parfait was so creamy (not for the diet conscious!) with a tangy chutney to compliment.

Main courses.

Duck with glazed carrots, apricot and bulgar wheat – usually served Pink but I like mine a little more well done – was cooked just as I requested and still so tender.

Wiltshire Pork Belly

Served with black pudding, pigs head croquette (tastes so much better than it sounds!) roscoff onions, lovage & mash – sublime

Crispy skin Turbot with sea vegetables – light and flavoursome – couldn’t fault the food.

IMG_5299Last but by no means least – the dessert 😋

Small but perfectly formed selection of naughty but definitely delicious desserts . We chose Alphonso Mango crumble with Kenilworth honey ice cream and the Black Forest chocolate sphere with hot cherry sauce (the hot sauce was poured over at the table) which melted the sphere to reveal the Black Forest and ice cream centre .

We will without doubt be back here again, the waiting staff were knowledgeable and explained each dish when served, they were attentive without over crowding giving us space to enjoy our food and chat!

3 courses with a pre drink, water and 2 bottles of wine – about £75 per head but so worth it – a well deserved Michelin star here .
